EMDR as an integrative pssychotherapy approach was developed psychologist Francine Shapiro in 1987.since then it has been subject for several research and clinical work. EMDR’s (Eye Movement Desensitization Reporcessing) history in Turkey started with Marmara Earthquake in 1999. At the begining, EMDR was used for removing negative effects of traumatic experience, but now, it is used as a treatment for a variety of psychopathology and adjustment problems.EMDR assumes that, psychopathology is based on “traumatic experience” and adaptively reprocessed “traumatic experience” leads to the resolution of the problem.Apart from other approaches, EMDR focuses on all sensory components of memory (behavioral, cognitive, and physical) and the past, today, and future timeframe. Paralell to this, EMDR represents an integrative model based on information processing mechanisms of mind and brain. In this presentation, EMDR’s theoretical background and it’s basic assumptions will be explained, and it’s use in different problem areas will be presented by video-session recordings.
