The Key of the Big House

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study; is to examine the attachment styles and copingstrategies in couples living in big family apartment house

METHOD:155 person who had applied in marriage consuling department in Bakırköy Researchand Training Hospital for Psychiatry, Neurology and Neurosurgery were participated in the study. The participants were evaluated with questionnaire for demographic characteristics,Cope, Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised (ECR-R),RelationshipScalesQuestionnaire (RSQ)

RESULTS:43 person had been living in a big family apartment house. The person ın that group were married at younger age, engagement periods were longer,education levels were lower than the others. %65 of these women were housewife For both sex avoidant attachment were insignificantly higher than the others. Ambivalant attachment and negative self esteem were higher only for women ın that group as well.The ones who are not living in such a family house have higher problem focused and emotional coping rates

CONCLUSION: Attachment styles were found to be related with self esteem, interrelational process, parentrelation, social support seeking under stress. Studies with different associated factors about traditional family structure and living in a big family house in our country in larger samples should be done
