Physical Violence; Sociodemografic And Marital Features

The aim of this study; is to examine the difference of sociodemografic and marital features in couples who emphasize ıntimate partner violence.

155 person who had applied in marriage consuling department in Bakırköy Research and Training Hospital for Psychiatry, Neurology and Neurosurgery were participated in the study. The participants were evaluated with questionnaire for demographic characteristics, Beck depression scale, Maudsley marriage form, Romantic Jealousy Questionnaire, Sexual History Form and Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised (ECR-R).

RESULTS:

27 of 77 couple emphasize ıntimate partner violence. There was no difference at depression rates among the groups. The men who emphasize ıntimate partner violence had insignificantly higher avoidant attachment scores than the others ,while anxious attachment scores were higher for women who were the victims. Under violence circumstances men exprienced their marriage as good/ middle satisfaction level, when women behind satisfaction determined little or none communication. The foreplay period were significantly lesser, sexual act satisfaction were lower. In situations that men felt jealous they said that, they acted with blame, envy and aggression which ended up in violence while women felt depressed, anxious and hopeless.

CONCLUSION: We think because of the complex strcture of the violence, couple therapy would be more effective with multilayer holistic approach. Therapuetic approachs should be strengthen by future studies which will determine the association bettween the cause and the result.
